5. How to audit your site for agent SEO

Step 1: Inventory your schema coverage

Crawl your site and list every page’s current schema types. Tools: Screaming Frog (structured data export), Google Rich Results Test, Schema.org Validator.

You are looking for gaps. Most sites have Organization and Article schema. Most sites are missing FAQPage, HowTo, Service, Product, and DefinedTerm. Write those gaps down. Every high-traffic page should have at least two schema types.

Step 2: Check for canonical definitions of your core terms

Make a list of the 10 to 20 terms your business wants to own. For each term:

  1. Google the term and check the top result.

Mistake 1: treating agent SEO as “just more schema”. Schema is one of five signals. Mistake 2: copying competitor definitions instead of writing your own. If three sites share the same definition of a term, none of them become the canonical source.
